Open ice for everyone

CPH offers a variety of open ice environments for players of all skill levels to skate together, meet each other, and have fun in only ways queer hockey players can.

A skate for every type of hockey-curious person

Our open ice programs are designed for all types of our members, whether you are new to CPH, currently on a team, or just looking for a chill way to join us when you can.
Newer players
Get comfortable without rushing into a roster
Great for players who want to meet new people and get more comfortable before joining a team.
Current players
Extra ice time outside your regular games
Use open ice to stay loose, work on confidence, and skate with people across the CPH community.
Friends and allies
A low-pressure way to meet the community
Perfect for those who can't join a team full-time, but still want to be part of the CPH community.

Drop-in scrimmages, but gayer

Our drop-in games are the main open-ice experience: real game flow, friendly energy, and space for players to get comfortable with everyone in the community.

What it is
Think rat hockey, but just for us queers
Drop-in games are full-ice, 5v5 games for all skill levels. The goal is have fun, play with other CPH players, and skate together.
Who should come
Players comfortable skating with all skill levels
For safety, we recommend all players have taken skating or hockey classes before attending a drop-in skate and be okay with skating with players at all skill levels.
What to bring
Gear, water, and the willingness to say hi.
Players should bring full hockey equipment and check the calendar or event notes for any session-specific details. Players must check-in as sessions are capped at 20 skaters. When in doubt, bring both light and dark jerseys.
After the skate
Stay long enough to meet the people behind the jerseys.
Open ice is often where new players learn names, hear about teams, and meet new friends. Stick around and hang out after for post-drinks!

Open Ice
Fun skates when CPH picks up ice throughout the year.
Open ice gives players, friends, allies, and curious new skaters a casual way to get on the ice, meet the community, and stay connected outside of regular team play.

We try to have a few throughout the year, but it depends when we're able to have ice donated or given to us.
Best for members, friends, allies, and curious new players.
Seasonal events, special skates, and extra ice slots will be posted when available.
The energy is casual and welcoming, much like a public skate. Full equipment not required.

A community driven, public skate

Stick and Pucks
Casual ice for skills, shots, and confidence.
Stick-and-puck sessions are loose and useful: space to shoot, pass, skate, ask questions, and spend time on the ice without the pace of a game.

CPH tries to have a few throughout the year, depending on when we have ice donated or given to us.
Best for newer players building comfort with the puck.
Helpful for team players who want extra reps outside games.
Great place for volunteers to support new skaters.
Feel
Practice-style! Full-equipment is needed.
Commitment
Occasional, we try to have a few throughout the year.
